Characteristics of Living Things 1

Here’s a quick summary of the Characteristics of Living Things:

  1. Movement: All living things show movement, either of their whole body or parts of it, like plants bending toward light.

  2. Respiration: They take in oxygen to release energy from food in a process called respiration.

  3. Sensitivity: Living things respond to changes in their environment, like plants reacting to light or animals sensing danger.

  4. Growth: Living things grow and develop over time, increasing in size and complexity.

  5. Reproduction: They produce offspring to continue their species.

  6. Excretion: Living organisms remove waste products from their bodies to stay healthy.

  7. Nutrition: All living things need nutrients to survive. They either produce food (like plants) or consume it (like animals).

These characteristics help to identify and define what is “living.”
